Nearly 400 images spanning three generations
Texts by Ruedi Bruderer, Anton Holzer, Urs Stahel
This volume is devoted to one of the most significant photography dynasties in the country: three generations of one family who ran a village photo workshop from 1898. The founder documented everyday village life and served as chronicler for a national park founded in that era. His son returned to the family business after years of independence elsewhere, and together father and son built up a postcard publishing arm while the son also published several books. The founder's grandsons carried the family tradition forward: one specialized in technical images such as power plant documentation, the other became a noted wildlife photographer and later a pioneer of homegrown documentary film. Across nearly the entire twentieth century, the family concerned itself mainly with its own surroundings, nature, and culture, and their region's economic development.
