Spector Books
Spector Books places its practice “squarely in the intersection of art, theory, and design”, and the method follows: the book is a stage, a place of encounter where artists, authors, designers, lithographers, printers and bookbinders work out together the interplay of content, design and materiality. The Leipzig house was founded in 2001 by Markus Dreßen, Anne König and Jan Wenzel, and it has built its reputation on that craft, winning among other prizes the Gutenberg Prize of the City of Leipzig. Photography sits among art, theory and design titles, which is why a Spector photobook tends to be a designed whole in which paper, binding and typography carry as much of the argument as the pictures.
