DCV books

Berlin, Germany · since 2019

DCV, the Dr. Cantz'sche Verlagsgesellschaft, is an international art-book publisher based in Berlin that carries on the tradition of edition cantz, whose roots lie in the printing house the Cantz family founded in Bad Cannstatt in 1933. Relaunched under its current name in 2019 and independent since 2021, it publishes catalogues and monographs on contemporary art, with books on photography, architecture and design alongside, and artist editions next to the books. Photography appears here mostly as one practice among many: monographs by photographers sit next to exhibition catalogues and collection publications, and the older titles in the archive still carry the Edition Cantz imprint. DCV also produces and distributes books for other clients.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
