Hassla Books

New York, United States · since 2007

Hassla is a New York publishing project by the artist David Schoerner, founded in 2007 with a focus on artists' books and catalogues. The list is photography-adjacent: books by artists who work with the camera and with other media, exhibition-style publications, and monographs on painters, with many titles now out of print. The books are numbered HB001 and upwards in the order they appear, so the catalogue reads as one continuous run in which an artist's book is the default form and photography one of its materials.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
