Einaudi

Turin, Italy · since 1933

Einaudi was founded in Turin in 1933 by a group of friends from the D'Azeglio classical lyceum, with Giulio Einaudi as its entrepreneurial soul and Leone Ginzburg, later killed by the Nazis in 1944, as its first editorial director. Its ostrich emblem comes from the journal La Cultura, which Einaudi edited until the fascist regime closed it in 1935. It is a general house of literature, history, science and ideas, and its photography titles in this archive are of one kind: essays and theory about the image rather than photobooks.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
