Humboldt Books

Milan, Italy · since 2012

Humboldt Books was founded in Milan in 2012 by Alberto Saibene and Giovanna Silva as a travel-book publisher: its stated subject is narratives and experiences of travel, real or imaginary, gathered from international artists, writers, photographers, designers and architects and shown, in its words, through “a new, unconventional gaze”. Each project mixes geography with literature, photography and art, and the house also curates new editions of classic travel literature, so a Humboldt book may be a portrait of a city, a journey to Iceland or an old adventure revisited. Photography is one of the languages in which the journey is told, rarely the only one, and the Milan base shows in how often the city itself is the destination.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
