“Obsolete images and things, abandoned to themselves, which I take away, pull out of their context of silent invisibility and uselessness. In a certain sense, I take care of them. The practice of montage opens up unexpected associative, existential and aesthetic possibilities. For years I have been reflecting on the potential, often dormant or worn out, present in images, going back to look at and use anachronistic or poor material with projects that are different every time, projects that bring to light, or reveal, the hidden and irrational side of things and of images. To gather, to bring close, to put together, to make things meet is a way of reorganising, or surprising, vision and thought, of calling back into play the enigmatic nature of the photographic image, which continuously questions us.” (A.S.)

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
