A24

United States

A24 is better known as a film and television company, and its books are the print side of that work. The line began with three screenplay books for films by Alex Garland, Robert Eggers and Barry Jenkins, and each numbered volume adds extras beyond the script: short fiction, conversations with historians and directors, production sketches, introductions by actors, essays by novelists. Photography enters sideways, as set photographs, film stills and personal archives; one volume reproduces annotated pictures from a director's childhood family albums. The books are made as objects, with foil-stamped, debossed and flush-cut covers, and alongside them come issues of a zine, so the archive holds them as a different way of publishing images around cinema.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
