Mack

London, United Kingdom · since 2010

MACK began in 2010 as a house for photography and has widened on purpose: it now describes itself as an experimental space for authors across disciplines, and the list includes a handbook on post-carbon architecture, essays on modernist painting and facsimiles of an artist's books beside the photographic monographs. Its stated aim is to hold critical dialogues around visual culture, and the programme goes beyond the printed page: bookshops in Berlin and Los Angeles, a talks and studio-visit platform called MACK LIVE, and a First Book Award for debut photographers. There are imprints for essays, for film, with a screenplay collection made with A24, and for rare and special editions, so one house covers both the first book of a young photographer and a critical text on cinema.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
