Dashwood Books

New York, United States · since 2005

Dashwood Books opened in September 2005 at 33 Bond Street in NoHo, New York, as a bookshop for contemporary photography, importing books with little or no US distribution, limited press runs from Japan, Germany and the Netherlands among them, along with artists' self-published books, signed books and collectible post-war titles. Its publishing programme began in 2008 with a monograph and covers photography and drawing monographs, anthologies on youth culture, and artists' zines and posters. The shop holds book launches and signings, and it builds collections for museums, schools, libraries, designers and fashion houses, and it serves the fashion, advertising and film industries, so the publisher is also a bookseller and a supplier.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
