Featuring Ken Block

Professional rally car driver Ken Block, known for his enormously popular viral video series Gymkhana, took his driving skills to the remote southern Utah landscape between Capitol Reef and Goblin Valley to collaborate with photographer Jim Mangan on this project. In his foreword Mangan writes that he has explored and photographed the same remote southern Utah landscapes for five years, that the series continues those projects and is also the result of a collaboration with his friend Block, that their three days in the desert exceeded his wildest dreams, and that they stayed within the moment, far from any digital connectivity, hoping readers can escape for a moment as they turn the pages. The black-and-white photographs show towering rock formations, tyre tracks and rising dust and smoke. The book was launched to coincide with an exhibition at 205-A in New York's East Village, where Mangan and Block signed copies.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
