Aerial photography by Art Alanis
Printer: Blair Litho, Los Angeles
A survey of largely empty parking lots across the city, each photographed from directly overhead so that painted lane markings and oil stains read as flat abstract compositions rather than functional spaces. Commissioning a professional aerial photographer to fly over each site removed the artist's own hand from the act of shooting, pushing the deadpan cataloguing impulse of earlier volumes to a more detached, purely conceptual extreme.
