A twenty-year survey of Basilico's photography of cities across Europe and beyond, gathering 330 images and opened by an introduction from architect Álvaro Siza. In his own words, Basilico calls the book honest testimony to his relationship with the city, not through the quantity of the photographs but through the way they interweave and hold together, wanting, like him, to become a single story. He describes urban space as his own nature: that of an urban animal who admires the natural landscape as something extraordinary yet external to the city, with urban nature as the territory chosen by his entire body of research. The volume gathers essays and conversations with architects, critics and curators around this central preoccupation with the built environment.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
