Rather than simply documenting Luigi Snozzi's long redesign of the small Ticino town of Monte Carasso, Basilico was asked to bring his own personal photographic reading of the place, attentive to the relationships between sites and objects, architecture and landscape. Critic Pierre-Alain Croset writes in his introduction that Snozzi's work at Monte Carasso belongs to a rich tradition of urban experiments by architects who identify closely with the towns they build in, and the book tries to represent the town's urban dimension as Basilico saw it, rather than simply cataloguing individual buildings. Published for the Swiss Pavilion at the 1996 Venice Architecture Biennale, it includes a three-way conversation between Croset, Basilico and Snozzi himself.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
