In 2005 and 2006 Jim Goldberg travelled to Ukraine for a project on migration at the start of the new millennium. Revisiting that work now, he sets it beside a text by the Ukrainian writer and film-maker Iryna Tsilyk, who describes a generation born in a time of change on the ruins of an empire: people formed in different regions, speaking different languages, carrying different traumas of the past and yet held together by shared desires and by the search for another life.
