Alice Wong, an artist at the Creative Growth Art Center, works over vintage vernacular photographs with paint markers, breathing new life into family-album kitsch and clichéd shots of plants and landscapes and turning them into a hyper-coloured plane of vivid abstraction. Her hand both enhances and obscures the formal qualities of the appropriated pictures, bringing energy to each underlying image and recalibrating the viewer's eye.
