Jan Mammey and Falk Messerschmidt criss-cross Paris recording the dormant monuments to French colonialism scattered through the city. They made those traces and sites the focus of a six-month residency, having found that the violent history of colonialism — fundamental to the formation of contemporary France — is addressed by no dedicated institution. Their pictures follow statues, plaques and street names that persist in plain sight.
