A collection of photographs that illustrates the birth of the Dutch artist's visual language. All of the images presented here were taken in the mid-1990s, when Viviane Sassen was just embarking on her career. Favouring a spontaneous and personal approach, she used her immediate surroundings and environment as her preferred subjects. The work was initially conceived as a book project and would only be published years later, following the artist's encounter with the French publishing house that issued it.
