To mark photography's bicentenary, celebrated across 2026-2027, the Centre national des arts plastiques launched in September 2024 a national photographic commission titled Réinventer la photographie. Two hundred years after the medium's emergence, the commission invited artists and authors to question its contemporary shifts and explore new forms of visual creation, in a moment marked equally by the rise of digital tools and artificial intelligence and by a renewed interest in historical processes - affirming the vitality of a medium in constant transformation and opening a space to reflect on and experiment with what photography can be today, between heritage, innovation and reinvention. The book brings together work by fifteen artists: Mali Arun, François Bellabas, Lucien Bitaux, Marie Bovo, Anne-Lise Broyer, Gaëlle Choisne, Sybil Coovi, Handemagnon, Isabelle Giovacchini, Laurent Lafolie, Laurent Millet, Constance Nouvel, Baptiste Rabichon, Michel Slomka, Stéphanie Solinas and Marie Sommer.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
