Barthélémy Toguo's work proceeds by accumulation and by the proliferation of signs able to disturb and question the clichés and divides between the "Western" world and the "non-Western" world (since on this subject the denomination operates by exclusion). In his practice it is quite significant to note that two aesthetics rub shoulders and clash, stigmatising his personal journey and uprooting. Between photographic portraits and rougher drawings or sculptures made with materials proper to a tradition, a geography, the boat presents itself as a possible answer to the paradoxes produced by im(e)migration.
