A look at the first period of Kozo Miyoshi, known to a younger generation as the photographer of large-format 8x10 and even 16x20 cameras. ORIGIN gathers pictures made between 1972 and the early 1980s on a Nikon 35mm camera and a Rollei 6x6, just before he moved to large format; it includes work from the books Exposure (1979) and See Saw (1982), together with unpublished pictures printed for the occasion. Miyoshi began to show these early works to the young students he teaches, since 8x10 felt too far from them, and entrusted Hikari Machiguchi with every element of the book: title, composition, size, design, binding and printing. For him the original prints are everything, so his part was to make his best prints. The black-and-white images range from a dark landscape to an interior with a table and a large sphere standing on a shore.
