Ten years of photographs of the people and landscape of his hometown in Fukushima after the Great East Japan Earthquake, in two parts printed back to back. Fat Fish shows people and scenes close to Jun Kanno and, from around 2014, recurring bird's-eye views of the temporary storage sites for radioactive soil, whose flexible container bags, each like a fish scale, form a giant fish that he says looks swept in by the tsunami; as the bags multiply, a neighbouring farmer grows old, a boy born after the disaster grows up, a local ceremony recurs every year at the same time, a boat-shaped garden tree swells and shrinks and a girl seems to grow smaller. Little Fish is made of snapshots of the same places taken with a dosimeter in hand. Photographed periodically, all of it shows time advancing in different, non-linear ways, the fragmented flow of time in post-disaster Fukushima, with things in the same space seeming to form layers.
