A handy-format retrospective that follows Masahisa Fukase from the 1960s to the early 1990s. By looking intently at his private life, Fukase carved out a unique place in the Japanese photography of the 1960s, in what later became known as the I-photograph: he turned his camera on his wife, his family and others close to him, exposing his own private life and attending to the madness within himself, a madness that mixes a loving gaze at his subjects with a carefree humour. The plates gather his main works, Yugi (Homo Ludens), Yoko, Karasu (Ravens), Sasuke, Kazoku (Family), Aruku me (Walking Eye) and Shikei (Private Scenes), followed by the Bukubuku essays, a text by Tomo Kosuga of the Masahisa Fukase Archives on the paradox of love and photography, exhibition notes, a chronology, exhibitions, a bibliography, awards and a list of works.
