The latest work by Ryuichi Ishikawa, a series that continues A Grand Polyphony of 2014 and traces, wandering and thinking beyond time and place, the fluid forces and relations of the world. The title is a sign for zekkei, a scenic view: an amorphous view whose emotion affects the whole body, the relationship between landscape and emotion, outside and inside. Appearances of nature and noise beyond the control of the self, and the effort to face what is hard to accept, lead him through photography to look for their structure and for his own outline: street, nation, religion, sex, history, the place where one is, life itself, all connected with a bug inside. Thinking about photography as a medium, the series grasps the present flow of the digital and of humans, and the state of nature.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
