Photographs of four earthquake ruins in Rikuzentakata, the hometown of Naoya Hatakeyama, made in the summer of 2020 with a digital camera at the request of the city hall: the former roadside station Takata-Matsubara, Kesen Junior High School, the Shimojuku settlement promotion housing building no. 1 and the Rikuzentakata Youth Hostel. The station had been a busy information hub with some 400,000 visitors a year, the school was the photographer's alma mater, the hostel had put up his friends and the housing was for young families. Their interiors were still packed tightly with soil, just as they were ten years before, and, unlike other buildings later demolished, no one happened to have died in them. Nearby stands the miracle pine, since 2013 an artificial core with a preserved trunk and plastic leaves. The city plans to preserve and open the ruins; these pictures, made before that, are offered as doors between people's consciousness and memories, a bulletin to the great time ahead.
