Ferox: The Forgotten Archives is the reconstruction of an entirely fabricated archive belonging to a fictional space agency called IEMS (International Exploration for the Mars Surroundings), supposedly active from 1976 to 2010. Swiss photographer and graphic designer Nicolas Polli, fascinated by the phenomena of fake news and the default acceptance we have for visual information, carefully invented every element: texts by commissioned writers, photographs mimicking NASA aesthetics made in his studio, geological data, diagrams, and indexes — all structured to appear as a plausible scientific document. The project explores the boundaries between reality and fiction and raises fundamental questions about how we evaluate the authenticity of images.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
