Photography and observations of unidentified airborne phenomena are linked by a long shared history. Carlo Rusca’s (b. 1989; lives and works in Ticino) project 248–CH delves into a wave of UFO sightings that scientists now label UAP, or “unidentified anomalous phenomena.” The point of departure for his ongoing research is archival material held at the CUSI Ufology Center in Lugano: the dossier 248–CH, which has since been released to the public, documents numerous cases since the 1980s that have remained unexplained to this day. In his project of the same title, Rusca scrutinizes the relationship between photographic documentation, archive, and eyewitness testimony and sifts through the evidence of these fascinating yet controversial sightings. With an essay by Danaé Panchaud.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
