Inspired by a sentence by Reinhold Messner describing his expeditions as vast invisible works of art, the Italian artist Alice Guareschi set out on an adventure through three continents, travelling according to a code: colour. From the White Sea in north-western Russia to the Yellow Sea in north-eastern China, the Red Sea in eastern Eritrea and the Black Sea in northern Turkey, she filmed with a small video camera and turned what she found and what struck her into a 92-minute road movie. The book takes the reader along the same journey through a selection of stills from the film, notes by the artist and a collection of postcards sent from abroad.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
