Christer Strömholm, known for his depictions of transgender women in 1950s Paris and for co-founding the Fotoskolan photography school in Stockholm, made a number of photographic journeys in the first half of the 1960s whose images have largely not been shown. These were taken in Los Angeles in 1963 and New York in 1965. The scans were made from glossy Agfa Brovira vintage prints that were made and forgotten in the mid-1960s, and the new prints were made by his sons Joakim and Jakob Strömholm after scanning the original negatives.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
