The sixth publication in this series is completed by Stockholm based artist Mikael Olsson. The airy, dreamy black and white images in this publication were shot on the island of Capri. Their subject is the Villa Lysis, a mansion that was built for the French poet and writer Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen. After fleeing France in 1903 after being accused of “indecency” with young boys, Count d'Adelswärd-Fersen lived in the building with his lover Nino Cesarini until his drug-related suicide in 1923. The building itself was designed by architect Edouard Chimot in an Italianized version of Art Nouveau.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
