With Viaggio in Sardegna , the aim is to present a selection of over seventy works by the Italian artists involved, creating a dialogue and a creative tension between two territories. It is an initiative grounded in the exchange of experiences and the construction of a cultural and professional dialogue capable of connecting diverse artistic communities and audiences. The goal is to liberate Sardinia from its stereotypical image—sun-drenched, static, and touristic—by questioning it through the gaze of photography. This is not a didactic account, but a deep exploration of the invisible folds of landscape and everyday life.” Departing from the exhibition held at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Miami in September 2025, the book brings together a selection of works produced over the past seven years within the framework of the project AR/S – Arte Condivisa in Sardegna of the Fondazione di Sardegna. The book also features texts by a selection of celebrated Italian writers, including Edoardo Albinati, Giovanni Columbu, Valerio Magrelli, Paola Soriga, Andrea Cortellessa, and Riccardo Cicilloni. In this collective portrait of contemporary Sardinia, diverse realities intersect: the archaic stones of dolmens and menhirs, the sublime silence of the former prison-island of Asinara, the decaying traces of industrial history, and cities emptied of their inhabitants. Olivo Barbieri, Marco Delogu, Pino Musi, and Paolo Ventura lead us on surprising journeys through their Sardinian Commissions. Marco Loi, Luca Nostri, and Vincenzo Pagliuca explore the struggles of pastoralists, the memories of Emilio Lussu, and the evocative tombs of the Domus de Janas—ancient dwellings recently recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The book also includes a selection of works by the students of the most recent Photo Solstice workshop , guided by Matthew Connors and dedicated to the island of Culuccia. This annual initiative—free and experimental, composed of workshops, encounters, and exhibitions—lies at the heart of the activities of the Fondazione di Sardegna, together with Marco Delogu, in promoting a new photographic narrative of the island. Here, the light that imprints itself on the material surface is not the one that reveals, but the one that leaves traces and opens interpretative possibilities. The landscapes never appear neutral: recurring forms become symbols, residues of energy, details. Spectacular beauty gives way to doubt, to the margin, to that subtle shift that opens new meanings. Each image invites us to slow down, to dwell in uncertainty. This is an island that does not reassure—but precisely for that reason, it moves us, questions us, and draws us in.
