This book presents the works of the art blacksmith Paul Zimmermann. Since founding his studio in 1963 in Pliezhausen (between Tübingen and Reutlingen on the edge of the Swabian Alb), he created several hundred grave monuments and many fountains, gates, signs and free works. Zimmermann wants to shift the boundaries of the medium, of his craft. He takes new technical and formal paths in the attempt to give the material metal contemporary, modern forms. He approaches his tasks researching, in terms of content, before slowly developing the respective coherent form.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
