Papa, Gerd und der Nordmann is the first book by Ostkreuz photographer Espen Eichhöfer (*1966). With his pictures, made between 2009 and 2019, he pursues central questions about his origins: Where do I come from? Where is my home? What is Heimat? Eichhöfer was born in eastern Norway as the child of a Norwegian mother and a German father. He spent childhood and youth in the Ruhr area; today he lives and works in Berlin. The pictures were made in his Norwegian homeland, which he knows from regular holiday trips, first as a child, later with his own family.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
