A collection born from ten years of collaboration between the Belgian photographer Max Pinckers and the writer Hans Theys, who oversaw the photographic selection, the volume extrapolates the images from their original context to encourage the birth of new meanings. The publication also includes an essay by Theys, who analyzes Pinckers' work starting from some thoughts of Susan Sontag. According to Martin Parr: “In Max Pinckers' work we never really know whether what we see is staged or spontaneous, which is his great strength, and this book shows us that enigma with great conviction.”

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
