"Everything, All At Once Forever was the last track on side two of Th' Faith Healers second LP. It was 20 minutes long, because that's how long the tape was that we recorded it on. The engineer waved at us from the control room when the tape was about to run out, so we could stop in time. We only did one take, and that was the point. We didn't intend to do it again. I played drums with Th' Faith Healers from 1988-94 and it taught me how to unlearn the 80's. The stranglehold that aspirational culture had on the UK become really stale by then, and there wasn't even the money to prop it up. It was a very claustrophobic time, I took a lot of pictures of my friends at home, because there wasn't anywhere else to go, social life was dropping round for tea. I'd lost touch with current music, I was playing drums with a rather loose jazz outfit, and listening to Krautrock. It's hard to convey just how few distractions there were. So I hadn't really been paying attention, but it seemed something different was going on. Not in terms of a particular sound, but an anti-careerist denial of present, future, time itself. A turn inwards, externalised, very loudly, to each other." (Joe Dilworth)

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
