Minerva Cuevas's aesthetic practice can be situated at the interface between political action and exercises of social self-determination. Among the central themes she has addressed through her work are the commodification of natural resources all over the world, the social causes and consequences of climate change and the neoliberal mechanisms of power that exist in both the private and public realm.

She works across a variety of media, including film, performance, installations and murals, whereby the process of conducting research is a key component of her artistic method. In a clear gesture of non-compliance and resistance, she frequently appropriates the language of the establishment, such as institutional branding and commercial advertising.

This first monograph brings together a large selection of projects realized since the 1990s and it acts as a research tool for diverse and flexible interpretations and readings of the artist's work. An associative approach to the oeuvre as a whole allows interconnections to come to the fore.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
