L’HOMO. Le Book celebrates a decade of L’HOMO. At a time when LGBTI acceptance is increasingly under pressure, it is a document that exudes eroticism, humour and guts.

Compiled by the magazine’s editor-in-chief Iebele van der Meulen and designed by MENDO, the book looks back on more than eleven years of love and looks forward to a more inclusive society where diversity is celebrated and everyone is visible.

It contains the highlights of twelve issues of the groundbreaking magazine, as well as new content created for the book. Over the 2010s the title grew from a magazine exclusively for gay men into an all-round brand for the entire LGBTI community, generating an enormous amount of publicity for emancipation in the Netherlands with its high-profile, taboo-breaking covers.

The book looks back with spectacular images and poignant stories, and ahead with never-before-published photos and human interest stories. It was published on 17 May 2021, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
