Box set of 90 concertina-folding postcards
Edited by Hanna Scott and Ann Shelton

An unconventional format for a show: a box set of ninety concertina-folding cards that unfolds into a touring exhibition. As such it travelled to the Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt, to Peninsula Arts at Plymouth University in Devon, and to St Paul St Gallery at AUT in Auckland during 2010.

“The cards literally become the exhibition, challenging the traditional use of a card to venerate the landscape. These are not typical tourist sites. The project is significant because it highlights how artists travel and conduct research: their images are often driven by unusual impulses — like Wayne Barrar recording underground spaces, or Mark Adams documenting the Treaty of Waitangi signing sites.” — Hanna Scott

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
