Roberto Andò's film L'abbaglio takes its cue from a little-known corner of the epic of Garibaldi's Thousand: a story set in a fascinating and secluded Sicily which turns out once again to be the setting of a restless and elusive identity, balanced between the wish for freedom and an unbridled fancy that runs into paradox.

Lia Pasqualino's pictures tell the film and the people in it in a parallel journey that gives back its epic and tragicomic air. It is a film about the paradoxes of history, where comedy and drama are mixed.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
