The book contains pictures of twentieth-century prisoners from the albums of Sultan Abdulhamid II, the thirty-fourth sultan of the Ottoman empire, who among his many interests kept a vast collection of images.

This second edition is dedicated to the struggle to reclaim democratic rights, and comes with a statement reflecting on the days in which Turkey's democracy is fighting for its life. The first edition won the best international photobook of the year at PHotoESPAÑA in 2021 and was a finalist at the Paris Photo Aperture awards in 2020.
