One day in October 2015 Ivana Marrone bought a handful of old amateur and family pictures at a second-hand market. Some time later those photographs, joined by others, left the trunk and were sent to writers, songwriters, journalists and cultural workers, to come back with a new story written especially for them: a new life handed to anyone who wants to read it. These are the Riscatti. The first book published by RVM Hub, it appears with three different dust jackets, each reproducing a pattern sampled from the decorated papers used on the covers and endpapers of fifteenth and nineteenth-century books, held in the collections of the Biblioteca Guarneriana in San Daniele del Friuli and the Letterform Archive in San Francisco: decorative motifs and a very light coated stock that recall the papers once used to protect books and photographic albums, or to line the inside of furniture, boxes, cases and drawers. “What you are holding is a family album. The album of a family of strangers, united by being, in their turn, strangers to whoever looks at them.” (Valerio Millefoglie)

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
