Andrew Waits addresses the rapid growth taking place in many urban areas around the world, and the desire to explore the underpinnings of a fast-changing environment and how it settles in the psyche. The result is a dreamlike narrative pieced together from the observed landscape. The work does not presume to answer questions about the ills of development; it presents a fictional narrative in an effort to approach the feeling that something is amiss. "For the most part we are disconnected from the underlying mechanisms of the system we live in," says Waits. "The work tries to highlight that disconnect and the struggle for understanding and connection."

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
