This series of candid accounts invites the reader into the journeys of the artist Gary Schneider in making pictures with his friend and mentor, the beloved photographer Peter Hujar (1934-1987). Working from a selection of Hujar's photographs, Schneider takes each one as a starting point for sharing his expertise as the posthumous printer of that work. Outside the darkroom, he sets his chronicle squarely within the transformative social changes of downtown New York in those years.
