The Long Shadow reveals the life and the unpublished pictures of the American photographer Marion Post Wolcott (1910-1990). Wolcott was the first woman hired as a full-time photographer by the Farm Security Administration, in 1938, during the Great Depression; three years and more than nine thousand frames later she was given an ultimatum that ended that work, and Odette England follows what happened to her pictures and her name afterwards.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
