Assembled around Basilico's first Premio Internacional de Fotografía de Arquitectura, awarded in 2007 by the Fundación Astroc, this book surveys the previous seven years of his work across San Francisco, Barcelona, Santiago de Compostela, Istanbul, Buenos Aires and Lisbon. Particular attention goes to an unpublished, still-unfinished project then underway in Moscow, where Basilico had begun photographing the seven Stalin-era towers built between 1947 and 1953 during the last years of the Soviet leader's rule, the same material that would grow into Mosca Verticale the following year. Curator Oliva María Rubio places the Moscow photographs at the centre of a book that otherwise reads as a survey of the architectural photography that earned Basilico the prize.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
