Home: A Nice Place to Visit is a photography book and vinyl-LP set based on Adam Goldberg's psych-pop album of the same name, released by The Goldberg Sisters, his fourth album under that name. The book pairs Goldberg's photographs with the lyrics of each track, each image a visual counterpoint to the feeling evoked by its companion song, in the manner of the hand-held objects for which he has always had an affinity, and an instrumental bonus track fills the fourth side of the album, not included in the digital release. Shot on instant film stocks with a variety of medium- and large-format cameras, the images extend a life-long obsession with physically documenting moments in time, echoing the years when he ended his nights by pasting the Polaroids taken that day into a journal, a practice that later became a virtual journal on Tumblr. Given the diverse aural textures and moods of the music, the photography is a wonder wheel of optical delights.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
