Published for her solo exhibition at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, a book that composes thirty years of Rika Noguchi's free photographic and video work, past series, recent and new pieces, so that each answers the others and brings out what they share. From the early series of divers (1995) to Towards the Night Stars (2014-2015) and the newest, Palm Trees (2022), the mysterious power of photography that crosses time and place leads her through phenomena and scenes she has met, in a practice that has explored the relationship of humans with unknown realms such as underwater, high places and outer space and, in recent years, the countless small mysteries of everyday life, freeing the viewer's senses and imagination. It also includes My Father's Album (2014), prints made from negatives her father left, which became an occasion to ask why people take photographs at all.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
