A selection of photographs by 42 Spanish photographers, among the most important of contemporary Spanish photography, made during the lockdown caused by Covid-19, when only essential workers could leave their homes. Among them were photographers, whose task was precisely to record a silent, halted world waiting for what was coming. Co-published with the Fundación Enaire, the book is a moving tribute to the effort of a whole country and a reminder of the overwhelming silence that suddenly settled over our lives. Two texts, by Elvira Lindo and Carlos de Amor, reflect on the unexpected arrival of the pandemic.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
