A book accompanying the exhibition at the Centro José Guerrero in Granada, curated by Juan Álvarez Márquez, which presents an unpublished part of Gisèle Freund's personal archive: the portraits she made of Latin American personalities, intellectuals, writers and artists. These photographs reveal the life itinerary of Gisèle Freund, from her beginnings in Paris, through her exile in Argentina, her stays in Uruguay, Chile and Mexico, to her final stage back in Europe. On her way through these places she portrayed important figures of the time.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
