This book not only collects the most representative images of W. Eugene Smith but also publishes for the first time the texts about his trip to Spain that the photographer wrote for Life magazine and that the magazine never published, in which he explains the field methods and principles that guided him and that accompany his other projects, revealing his vision of photography and his way of understanding reportage. His cinematic gaze, the result of his personal technique, framing, high and low angles and lighting, made the film stills of renowned directors of the fifties drink from Smith's photography. Together with the handling and developing process that he himself carried out, in which he almost eluded the silvers, he can be considered the master of the photo essay. His images capture the atmosphere of a place, the sensations of rooms and interiors, of the people portrayed. The first and best-known of his photographic essays, which acts as a prologue, is Spanish Village, a report made in the Extremaduran village of Deleitosa (Cáceres) in the fifties.
